King of Prussia is a community located in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The King of Prussia Inn was originally constructed by Welsh Quakers in 1719, made as a cottage for William and Janet Rees, founders of nearby Reesville. In 1774, the Rees hired James Berry to take over the Inn’s operations, and so it became known as “Berry’s Tavern.” Later, the name was changed to King of Prussia, perhaps inspired by Ben Franklin’s essay, “An Edict by the King of Prussia.”
